Next, let’s discuss the importance of proper maintenance and care for precision welded pipes.

Next, let’s talk about… Precision welded pipe Be sure to pay attention to maintenance and upkeep.
Because thin seamless steel pipes are dimensionally accurate, their inner and outer surfaces are exceptionally smooth, and they exhibit excellent ductility. These pipes can be flared, remain straight, show no cracks, undergo cold bending without deformation, and withstand high pressures, making them suitable for manufacturing a wide range of complex, custom‑shaped mechanical components. Many people mistakenly believe that thin seamless steel pipes are immune to corrosion. In fact, thanks to their precise dimensions, smooth interior and exterior surfaces, and superior flexibility, these pipes—whether flared, straight, crack‑free, cold‑bent, or free from deformation—can endure high pressure and are well suited for producing intricate, customized mechanical parts. Indeed, thin seamless steel pipes boast excellent corrosion resistance, which contributes to their favorable cost‑performance ratio; this is further enhanced by a protective surface oxide layer that significantly reduces the likelihood of oxidation.

However, precisely because people tend to overlook the finer details in handling seamless steel pipes and neglect their routine maintenance, the protective passive film on these pipes becomes compromised. This vulnerability is particularly pronounced at the interfaces where the film’s corrosion resistance is weaker; under conditions of self‑excited oscillation, crevice corrosion can develop, leading to localized pitting. The resulting highly corrosive solution—rich in chloride ions—accelerates further material degradation. Moreover, stress‑corrosion cracking within the stainless steel itself can damage the passive film on the pipe’s surface. Therefore, the surfaces of seamless steel pipes should be kept clean and properly maintained to extend their service life.
Precision welded pipe Production process and quality requirements
In the past, precision welded tubes were typically manufactured using direct current (DC) arc welding. Because DC power is stable and produces a smaller internal weld bead, this method well meets the requirements of small‑diameter precision tubing. Consequently, DC arc welding has been widely adopted overseas. However, DC arc‑welding systems and equipment are complex in design, difficult to maintain, and relatively expensive, while the welding process itself is intricate to adjust and challenging to master.
Waveform welding requires first generating waveform current and voltage using a converter, followed by welding with a rotating output transformer and a pair of electrode wheels—similar to those used in DC arc welding—each with a diameter of 610 mm. Compared with DC arc welding, the overall system remains quite complex, offering no significant improvements in ease of use, operation, or maintenance. Moreover, even when compared to conventional low‑frequency welding, its weld quality still falls short of that achieved with DC arc welding.
High-frequency welding is a highly efficient joining method characterized by concentrated heat generation, high weld‑zone intensity, a relatively simple electrical system and welding mechanism, ease of operation and adjustment, convenient maintenance, low capital investment in specialized tooling, and low manufacturing costs. Abroad, high‑frequency welders have long been used to produce high‑performance drill‑string booms.
Steam pipelines and stainless steel pipes, among others, are widely used in China; however, their major drawback is the high level of weld spatter, which cannot be removed from the internal burrs of small-diameter steel tubes, severely limiting the expansion of their application scope. In recent years, overseas research has focused on improving high-frequency induction welding and related techniques, reducing the height of internal weld spatter to below 0.3 mm and achieving weld quality comparable to that of DC arc welding. Consequently, a new type of medium-frequency magnetic induction welding process has been adopted in the production of small‑diameter, high‑precision seamless tubes.

Machining accuracy
These include diameter, nominal diameter, wall thickness, ovality, and wall‑thickness non‑uniformity; for high‑precision welded pipes, dimensional tolerances generally exceed those of standard welded pipes, and some equipment further mandates stringent assessments of curvature and torsional distortion.
