Technical requirements for the machining of stainless steel cylinder tubes

Stainless steel cylinder tube The manufacturing process is primarily carried out through cold drawing and hot rolling. This is a high‑precision steel pipe material, as its inner and outer surfaces are free of oxide layers and can withstand high pressures without leakage. It not only boasts exceptional dimensional accuracy but also excellent surface finish. Even when subjected to cold bending, it resists deformation and cracking; during flattening, no cracks appear. Consequently, it is widely used in hydraulic and pneumatic applications, with products such as hydraulic cylinders and pneumatic cylinders being particularly common.
Because stainless steel cylinder tubes are manufactured using roll‑forming technology, this process introduces greater compressive residual stresses on the surface, which helps to inhibit the propagation of small cracks on closed surfaces and effectively prevents corrosion from spreading. Enhancing the surface corrosion resistance of the cylinder tube also significantly prolongs the fatigue life and improves its fatigue performance. After rolling, the rolling action creates a hardened layer on the tube’s surface, reducing the contact area between mating parts and inducing both plastic and elastic deformation, thereby markedly improving the wear resistance of the inner wall and preventing scorching caused by grinding. Furthermore, rolling substantially lowers the surface roughness of stainless steel cylinder tubes.

Since rolling is a non‑cutting manufacturing process, it is typically carried out at room temperature. The principle of plastic deformation in metals is employed to induce micro‑roughness on the surface of the workpiece to be rolled. Consequently, both the surface texture and the mechanical properties are effectively modified, enabling this process to achieve the dual objectives of surface smoothing and strengthening—tasks that cannot be accomplished through grinding.
