This method is suitable for ultrasonic testing of single‑layer seamless straight cylindrical stainless steel tubes with an outer diameter of 6–7 mm and a wall thickness of 0.5–6 mm. It may also serve as a reference for ultrasonic testing of other types of steel tubes, but it is not applicable to specially shaped tubes or tubes with extremely thin walls. The purpose of the inspection is to detect longitudinal defects that compromise the continuity of the tube material. The actual dimensions of defects, as well as their origin and nature, are outside the scope of this standard.
