What are the excellent performance characteristics of stainless steel cylinder tubes?
26 Jan,2022
Stainless steel cylinder tube The inner diameter determines the cylinder’s output force; the piston slides smoothly within the cylinder, and the internal surface roughness meets Ra 0.8 µm. The inner surface of the steel‑tube cylinder is hard‑chromed to reduce friction and wear and to prevent corrosion. Except for high‑carbon steel cylinders, cylinders are manufactured from high‑strength aluminum alloy or brass. This small cylindrical component is made of stainless steel. In corrosive environments, pneumatic cylinders equipped with magnetic switches should be constructed from stainless steel, aluminum, or brass. The chemical composition of the cylinder liner includes carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, and chromium.

By expanding within the engine cylinder, the cylinder converts energy into mechanical work. In a compressor cylinder, a piston compresses gas to increase its pressure. The housing of a turbine or rotary‑piston engine is commonly referred to as the cylinder. Applications of stainless steel round tubes include printing (tension control), semiconductors (spot welders, chip grinding), automated control systems, robotics, and more.
Stainless steel cylinder tube The Rockwell hardness test is, in essence, similar to the Brinell hardness test; the only difference lies in the indentation method. The Rockwell test primarily measures the depth of the indentation. Because it is well suited for testing soft metallic materials, it effectively addresses the limitations of the Brinell test and, being relatively simple, has found widespread application. However, due to the smaller indentation size, its hardness values are less accurate than those obtained with the Brinell method.
Advantages of stainless steel cylinder tubes:
1. Improve surface roughness, achieving a roughness level of approximately RA ≤ 0.08; miniature; M approx.
2. Correct roundness and ovality ≤ 0.01 mm.
3. Increase surface hardness and eliminate stress-induced deformation; under high pressure, the hardness increases to ≥ 4°.
4. After machining, a residual stress layer remains, increasing fatigue strength by 30%.
5. Improve component quality, reduce wear, and extend the service life of parts, while lowering manufacturing costs.
Stainless steel cylindrical tubes are characterized by a lightweight design and a long service life.
Due to its high strength and corrosion resistance, stainless steel—compared with materials such as aluminum and iron—can be engineered to be lighter and thinner while retaining its non-magnetic properties. This allows for reduced product size and weight. It is increasingly used in miniature cylinders and is the preferred choice for portable automation equipment.
The surface roughness of both the inner and outer surfaces of stainless steel cylinder tubes can reach Ra 0.2–0.4 μm, and the dimensional tolerances for both inner and outer diameters can be as tight as 0.03 mm; available sizes range from Φ3 to Φ108 mm, with wall thicknesses from 0.2 to 3 mm.
